5 Website Mistakes That Are Costing
Mumbai Businesses Leads Every Day

Your website might look good — but if it's making any of these five mistakes, it's quietly losing you enquiries every single day.

Back to Blog

A website's job is simple: turn visitors into enquiries. Everything else — the design, the content, the technology — is in service of that one outcome. Yet most business websites we audit in Mumbai are failing this test without their owners realising it.

The good news: these mistakes are fixable, often in days, not months. Here are the five we see most often.

01

No Clear Call to Action Above the Fold

When a visitor lands on your homepage, they make a snap decision in 3–5 seconds: does this look like what I'm looking for? If the answer isn't immediately obvious, they're gone.

Most Mumbai business websites make visitors scroll to find out what the business does, who it's for, and how to get in touch. By the time they find that information, many have already left.

The fix: Your homepage hero section should answer three questions immediately: What do you do? Who is it for? What should I do next? The "what next" is your call to action — a WhatsApp button, a "Get a Quote" link, a phone number. It should be visible without scrolling, on both desktop and mobile.

Quick test: Open your website on your phone. Without scrolling, can you see your phone number or WhatsApp button? If not, you're losing mobile leads every day — and in India, most of your traffic is mobile.

02

Slow Loading Speed on Mobile

India's mobile users are on everything from high-speed WiFi to 4G to slow 3G connections. If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load on a mobile device, research shows that more than half of visitors leave before the page even appears.

The most common cause of slow websites in Mumbai? Uncompressed images. A photographer's portfolio uploaded as full-resolution files, a product catalogue with images that are 5–10MB each — these kill load time and conversion rates.

The fix: Run your website through Google PageSpeed Insights (search for it — it's free). Any score below 50 on mobile needs attention. Usually the solution is compressing images, enabling lazy loading, and removing unnecessary scripts. A developer can fix most speed issues in a day.

03

Contact Form as the Only Way to Reach You

Contact forms feel professional. They're also a significant conversion barrier for Indian customers, who strongly prefer WhatsApp for business communication. Asking someone to fill in a form when they're used to just typing a message feels like unnecessary friction.

Even if your contact form works perfectly, the psychology works against you: a form feels like a commitment, and it creates anxiety ("Will they actually get back to me? What do I write?"). WhatsApp feels casual and immediate.

The fix: Add a WhatsApp button prominently on your website — ideally floating on every page. Many businesses see a 40–60% increase in enquiries just from adding this one button. Keep the contact form too, but make WhatsApp the primary option.

04

Not Ranking for Any Local Search Terms

Your website might look great, but if it doesn't appear when potential customers search for your service on Google, it's generating no organic traffic. This is an SEO problem — and it's extremely common for Mumbai businesses that built their website without SEO in mind.

The most basic version of this mistake: your homepage title tag says just your business name ("Sharma & Sons Enterprises") rather than what you actually do ("Event Catering Services in Mumbai | Sharma & Sons").

The fix: Every page on your site should have a title tag (the text in the browser tab) that includes the service you offer and the location you serve. Check your current title tags by looking at the browser tab when your site is open. If they don't mention your service and city, that's your first SEO fix to make.

05

No Trust Signals

Mumbai customers are researching businesses online before they contact them. They're looking for signals that you're legitimate, experienced, and safe to work with. Many local business websites are missing almost all of these trust signals.

Trust signals include: client testimonials or Google reviews displayed on the site, logos of past clients or brands you've worked with, years in business clearly stated, team photos (real people build trust), any certifications or awards, and your physical address (even if you work remotely).

The fix: Add at least three genuine client testimonials to your homepage. If you have Google reviews, embed them or quote them directly (this is also good for SEO). Show your team's photos in your About section. Display your address in the footer. Each of these small additions reduces the scepticism a new visitor feels and makes it easier for them to reach out.
